Stressful journeys

As any parent will know car journeys can be stressful. Normally the journeys home from nursery are hard work, involving lots of singing to distract Joanna from what she wants. Today we dropped Mark off to photograph a wedding, and got stuck in traffic around lunchtime. John was crying, which is unusual. Sat in a traffic jam there was a moments respite from him, then suddenly Joanna starts crying. "What's the matter Joanna?" I asked. "I poked myself in the eye". I comfort her by talking to her. Peace resumes. A minute later more crying. "What's the matter Joanna?" I asked again. "I poked my other eye". I really didn't think parenting would involve advising my (supposedly intelligent) daughter not to poke herself in the eye.
